Certified Viability Technologist (CVT)

A CVT is an analyst who has passed the Germination/Viability Exam consisting of a written portion and virtual seedling evaluation. The Germination/Viability Exam is given entirely virtually.

Certified Purity Technologist (CPT)

A CPT is an analysts who has passed the Purity Exam consisting of a virtual written portion and hands on seed identification portion.

Certified Genetic Technologist (CGT)

A CGT has passed a practical exam in at least one of the following areas of genetic testing: Immunoassay, Herbicide Bioassay, PCR and Electrophoresis and has passed a written exam on plant molecular biology and genetics.

Registered Seed Technologist (RST)

An RST has passed both the purity and germination portions of the exam.

Registered Genetic Technologist (RGT)

An RGT has passed the written exam and passed a practical examination in at least three of the four following areas of genetic testing: Immunoassay, Herbicide Bioassay, PCR and Electrophoresis.

AOSA-SCST

Combining over 100 years of seed quality testing experience and passion

AOSA-SCST is the result of the merger between two long-standing seed testing organizations. For over twenty years both organizations made small changes to testing requirements, committee structures, and operating procedures to bring AOSA and SCST into alignment to allow for an effective merger. As a single entity AOSA-SCST encompasses individual accreditation procedures for analysts and supports the development and improvement of the AOSA Rules for Testing Seeds. All members are encouraged to pursue research, education, and the highest levels of proficiency, whether they work for an government, university, private, or company laboratory.

The Association of Official Seed Analyst (AOSA) is an organization of member laboratories dedicated to education and research, including state, federal, and university laboratories from the United States and Canada. AOSA formally organized in Washington D.C. in 1908, developing rules and procedures for seed testing and the standardization of their interpretation (in conjunction with the Federal Seed Act).

The Society of Commercial Seed Technologists (SCST) is an organization of professional seed technologists dedicated to research, proficiency and improvement in seed testing from private, and company laboratories across the United States and Canada. SCST originated in 1922, largely as a liaison between The Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA) and The American Seed Trade Association (ASTA).
